You should only call 911 if you
have a real emergency. When the 911 operator answers, speak slowly in a calm voice. You
should know yourstreet name, house number and give the phone number. Don't hang up until you are told to do so. REMEMBER if your House is on fire call from a neighbor's house.
Stop Drop and Roll
If Your Clothing Catches On Fire
1. STOP Where you are. Moving or running feeds air to flames and worsens the fire. 2. DROP to the
ground. Place your hands over your eyes, nose, and mouth to protect your face. 3. ROLL slowly back and forth on the ground until flames are smothered.
Home Evacuation
1. Plan Your Escape! When a fire occurs, there's no time for
planning. Sit down with your family and make a step-by-step plan for escaping from a fire. 2. Draw a floor plan of your home mark two ways out of
every room especially sleeping areas. Practice these routes. 3. Agree on a meeting place outside your home where every member of the household will gather after escaping a
fire to wait for the Fire Department. This allows you to count heads and inform the Fire Department if anyone is trapped inside the burning building.
4. Practice your escape plan at least twice a year. Have a
fire drill in your home. Get out quickly but carefully. 5. If you live in an apartment building, use stairways to escape. Never use an elevator during a
fire, it may stop between floors or take you to floor where the fire is burning. 6. If you live in a two-story house and you must escape from a second-story window, Be sure
there is a safe way to reach the ground. 7. Test doors before opening them. While kneeling, reach up as high as you can and touch the
door, the knob, and between the door and door frame with the back of your hand. If the door is hot use another escape route. If you become trapped, close all the doors between you and the fire. Stuff the cracks around the
doors to keep out smoke. If you can't get out the window and down safely to the ground, wait at the window and signal for help.
Crawl Below Smoke

Always stay below smoke, when you crawl. You can breathe cooler, more fresh air, you can also
see better. |
